FAQs
Are the prices accurate?
Amazon is constantly updating, so though we have listed the prices, it is not promised that it is accurate to what is on Amazon currently.
Do I need to register with COLS?
Yes! Follow this link to create an account and receive a TIN number. You will need this number to be able to receive anything ordered.
Who ships the items?
DHL. You will need to add them as an agent once you have a login with COLS. My experience with them so far has been amazing! Not only does Amazon keep you updated on your order status through your profile, but DHL sends out emails and texts letting you know when the shipment is on its way. From there they will alert you when additional information is needed (you need to record your TIN and upload an invoice for each shipment), as well as give you alternative options for delivery.
Is this website a business?
No, it is just a blog from someone who loves the convenience of Amazon shopping here in Cayman and wants to share fun deals.
Does it cost me to order from this site?
Nope! All links take you directly to Amazon and you order from there. As an Amazon Associate, I do earn a small commission on qualifying purchases.
Have you used all the products listed on this website?
No, these items are not personal endorsements. If I personally have tried an item I may write about it, but these are just links to popular and highly rated products on Amazon.
What is a TIN Number?
In a lot of places, this is considered a “tax identification number” but here in Cayman it stands for “trader identification number”.
Where are DHL’s collection points?
There are 2 DHL locations you can collect your delivery from. One is located at 131 MacLendon Drive in George Town, and the other is located at 48 Lake Destiny Drive in Bodden Town. Find out more here.
What are the general steps to ordering from Amazon?
- Get your COLs Account
- Check out what items are available and build your Amazon cart.
- Update your delivery address to your home/work address in Cayman, upload your passport information/TIN number.
- Go to the checkout page to see your import and shipping fees calculated.
- Place your order.
- Wait for a notification from Amazon notifying that your items have been shipped.
- Wait for a message from DHL telling you your items have been shipped.
- DHL will notify you when they need customs information (your TIN as well as the invoice). They will send a link and all you have to do it put in your TIN and upload your invoice, boom.
- DHL will message to let you know the item’s approximate delivery date, this is when you can follow the link they will send you to change your delivery method.
- Collect your item or have DHL deliver to your door!
What do I need to provide to Amazon to order?
All you need is an address to send items to (this can later be altered to be collected at one of DHL’s service points) as well as uploading either your TIN or Passport page for customs.
How does the shipping cost work?
From my experience so far, if you order only items that are eligible for free shipping, and you spend more than $49 then your shipping is free. There are items that have shipping costs associated with them, if you order multiple of these items Amazon charges the lowest rate so just add all items to your cart to see what your fee will be.
How do I pay duty?
Amazon charges this at checkout. You know exactly what you are going to pay when you purchase the items. This can be found on each item under “Import fees” listed under the item description as well as under the item price on the product page. Find out more about the Import Fees Deposit here.
How long does it take to get your items?
I am not even joking when I say that I ordered items on October 28th in the evening and they were delivered to my door on November 4th by the early afternoon. Amazon and DHL are great at keeping you updated when your items will arrive, and send the items together that can be sent together.
What if my cart doesn’t qualify for free shipping?
As per Amazon, this may be because:
- The shopping cart includes items sold and shipped by a third-party seller
- Only items that qualify for free shipping count towards the minimum dollar requirement. Delivery fees are charged for all other items.
- VAT and Import Fees Deposit don’t contribute to the minimum dollar requirement.
Can you order items that don’t qualify for free shipping?
Yes, the shipping cost and import deposit will be listed on each item.
Do I need an Amazon Prime Account?
Not at all! There are advantages to having a Prime account such as even further discounts on certain items, but you do not need it.
Does Amazon have a return policy for international orders?
Yes! On a lot of the items there is a free return policy. You can return the item for any reason in new and unused condition: no return shipping charges. Go to your order page, select the item(s) you want to return, select the return reason then Amazon will let you know how to return the items to DHL. You have 30 days to return the item and you will get your refund in approximately 7-10 days.
Is it possible to filter your search so only items eligible for free shipping show?
Yes! Put in your address and the Amazon bar will have a spot that says “Get free international delivery” on the top right-hand side of the info bar. Choose the category then on the left-hand side make sure the filter that says “eligible for free shipping” is checked.
